High Pressure Gas Cylinder Flexible Pigtails, Stainless Steel Braided, Corrugated Metallic Inner-Core

STI Components provides stainless steel and Monel inner-core pigtails for specialty gases
STI Components metal inner-core hose has the following characteristics:
- Bellows type 316L SS corrugated inner-core, formed hydraulically with clean water, compressed longitudinally to provide the close pitch corrugation omega profile and maximum flexibility
- Inner-core hose is then wrapped with one or more layers of braid wire for strength of the entire assembly to provide for a high maximum working pressure with a 4:1 safety factor
- 316L SS end fittings are then welded onto the hose/collar structure at each end and the whole assembly is pressure tested, marked, cleaned and bagged.
The result is a zero-permeation, very flexible hose, that will satisfy applications for controlled rate cylinder filling or cylinder gas discharge supply for expensive specialty gases, toxic gases, corrosive gases and mixtures as well as small molecule gases such as hydrogen and helium.
316L SS inner-core hose is an acceptable material for high purity applications as well as mildly corrosive gases or mixtures. 316L stainless steel end fittings are used for this assembly as well.

For highly corrosive gases such as hydrochloric acid (HCL), the Monel inner-core hose is recommended. Also an excellent choice for high pressure oxygen. |

OPTION- ARMOR CASING – STAINLESS STEEL INTERLOCK
For applications where the flexible pigtails are handled frequently, we highly recommend the use of stainless steel interlock armor casing for protection against braid wire damage, to provide resistance, additional service life and protection, presenting a smooth, easy to handle protective cover of armor over the hose.
CAUTION: Extremely high velocities in corrugated metal hose will induce a resonant vibration which can result in premature failure. Flow velocity in a straight section of braided metal hose should be limited to 120 ft. per second for gas and 60 ft. per second for liquid (less conservative limits are 150 ft. per second and 75 ft. per second respectively). When the hose is installed in a bent condition, these flow limits should be reduced by 50% for a 90 degree bend, 25% for a 45 degree bend and so on, proportional to the angle of the bend. In cases where the velocity exceeds the above values, the inner diameter of the hose to decrease the resultant velocity, assuming the MAWP specified for the hose is acceptable for the application.
PTFE (smooth bore) inner-core hoses are not prone to fatigue due to flow velocity and is a better choice for high velocity gas flow applications. |

A = Acceptable, material is used in this application |
|
I = Insufficient Information, material compatibility may be suspect for the gas, choose another material. |
|
NR = Not Recommended, mostly due to corrosive nature of the gas on the material, choose another material. |
|
R = Recommended, even though other materials may be compatible, for specific nature of corrosive or poisonous.
|
|
N = Not typically used
for reasons of expense, non-compatibility, or better material available. |
Stainless Steel and Monel inner-core hoses are typically used for specialty gases demanding a non-porous inner core barrier.
The other more common industrial gases (shown in italics) can be well served with any of the materials listed above, and the choice of hose would be dependent on the application.
Check with STI Components if there are any questions concerning the application and the hose material and specs. |
